“Deej was my instructor whilst I was training for my ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) certificate. I found his teaching methods professional, clear and accurate. Deej has a great ability to be both technical and precise combined with a very engaging manner. If I could only take one skill from Deej it would be to make a pupil teacher relationship feel very balanced – whilst learning was always achieved it was always facilitated never directed.”

Qualification Process
To qualify to become a DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) Approved Driving Instructor, there is a three stage qualifying process:
- Part One : Theory Test
Theory Test. Similar to the the L-Test Theory, with 100 multiple choice questions and 14 Hazard Perception clips - Part Two : Driving Ability Test
An extended driving test, over a full hour, including all manouevres. A maximum of 6 driving faults is allowed. - Part Three : Instructional Ability Test
An observed lesson where the candidate must display competency in:- Lesson Planning
- Risk Management
- Teaching & Learning Strategies
First time pass rate for the part three test is around 6% Three out of the last four of Deej’s instructor trainees passed first time!
(the other passed on his second attempt)
Whatever you may have read or heard about the qualifying process elsewhere, passing the 3 DSA tests is not easy, and first time pass rate for part 3 in particular is less than 7%. Still interested? Then you need to understand that the reason for such a high failure rate is that most candidates are not properly prepared. Get prepared. For first class driving instructor training in York, give DG Driver Training a call.
(Andrew De-Giorgio passed all three tests first time and has trained new instructors both independantly and for the AA Driving School).

Opportunities Abound
Being a driving instructor doesn’t just mean teaching learner drivers. Subject to attaining the necessary qualifications you can go on to teach Pass Plus, Advanced Driving, Corporate Drivers or even go on to train new instructors yourself.
Choosing Your Driving Instructor Trainer
One thing to be aware of when choosing where you get your training is that many schools will tell you that if you train with them, they will guarantee you a job when you qualify. What they REALLY mean is that they will offer you a franchise deal whereby you pay anything from £100-£300 per week to use their car, their branding etc. What they don’t tell you is that they will usually offer this same deal to pretty much any qualified Approved Driving Instructor regardless of where they got their training.
Remedial Training
Trained elsewhere but not impressed?
Failed one or more of the tests?
If your current driving instructor training isn’t getting you the results you want, it might not be your fault, it could be down to your current driving instructor trainer! There are some extremely good trainers out there but there are also some trainers and organisations that are more interested in your money than they are in you. Call 07710 227763 for a no-obligation chat and see what D-G might be able to do for YOU.
Questions You Should Be Asking
Can you meet your trainer before commiting?
When spending this sort of money, you want to get the best out of it and this will be difficult if you don’t get on well with your trainer. It’s well worth meeting them before you commit to big spending.
Do you get a refund if you decide not to complete your training?
For various reasons, not everyone who starts training will see it through to the end. If this is the case with you, will you get your money back for training not taken?
When will your training happen?
Some organisations will take your money before commiting to any time frame. Some won’t even commit once you’ve paid! Horror stories abound of would-be instructors handing over thousands of pounds and then waiting weeks or even months to get their training, which even then is sometimes sporadic, irregular and infrequent. Make sure your trainer commits to a time frame that suits you before you hand over your hard earned cash. When you’re told “Oh yes, we can do your training at weekends,” ask “Which weekends?” and make sure you get an answer that suits you before you part with your money.
Is Training One-To-One?
Some trainers and organisations double up on trainees to save themselves money. Your logbook may say you’ve had 40 hours Part 3 training, but will that be 20 hours for you and 20 hours whilst you watched someone else being trained?
At D-G Driver Training you only pay for training when YOU are being trained, however (subject to COVID-19 restrictions) you will be encouraged to
- sit in on other trainees sessions (subject to their consent) at NO CHARGE to yourself.
- practise with other trainees – time spent practising is essential, and it’s even better when you don’t have to pay for it.
- Sit in on my pupil’s lessons – so you can see me teach in real life – NO EXTRA CHARGE
How long will it take?
This depends on two things; the CRB/DSA waiting times, and how much time you can commit. Most people take a year or more from their first enquiry to entry on the register of Approved Driving Instructors, but it can be done in 3-4 months with a bit of aptitude and application.
Testimonials
“Hi Deej
Just wanted to thank you for all your help, support and patience with my driving instructor training. I couldn’t have successfully passed all 3 of my tests first time without you. I’m now a fully qualified driving instructor and my business is just taking off. I have you to thank for helping me get where I am. Even though my training has finished, I know I can call on you anytime if I have and questions or problems.
Thanks again.
Katy : )”
Deej took over my driving instructor training mid way through my part 3 lessons when my previous instructor became ill. It was like a breath of fresh air!!!! Fun and very easy to get on with is how I would describe him. Deej puts you at ease and goes that extra mile to teach you to the standard required by the DSA.

“Having left my previous employment I decided that I wanted to try something different and thought I would train as a Driving Instructor. This was a step into the unknown for me and I was very nervous until I met Deej! Deej was very professional and honest in his teaching which meant I had a clear and structured learning programme that was timed to my needs. As well as the normal lessons Deej also allowed me to sit in on pupil lessons so I could observe how he taught learners, an experience that was priceless! I am happy to say that, thanks to Deej, I am now a fully qualified ADI with a thriving business!
If anyone is looking for a Driving Instructor Trainer then I would strongly recommend Deej”
